Big Leaf Pacific Maple

I just got the big leaf maple acclimated and milled for the desk/table. It is 36″ deep and 6’6″ wide. It will have a simple breadboard end and rest on a hickory base yet to be determined. Here is a look at the 15″ wide big leaf maple boards.

Adding black epoxy filler to the knot holes

Here’s a peak at the boards wet with naptha to give some idea of what it will look like

After the holidays I’ll be adding bread board ends and then finishing the top with boiled linseed oil (BLO) and a urethane varnish top-coat. The oil is going to make the figure in the grain look amazing and the urethane top coat will make it last a long time.

Until next time
